The GCA’s Virtual Photography Conference
“STORYTELLING”
Thursday, January 26, 2023
GCA photographers, horticulturists, and botanical artists won’t want to miss Mary Jo Hoffman, whose flat lay photography is featured in her STILL blog. This former 17-year aeronautical engineer, drawn to a creative lifestyle, will share the story of “place” and the importance of daily practice in sharing that tale.
This year’s conference shares Jim Richardson and his virtual storytelling. A well-known and beloved National Geographic documentary photographer, his body of work covers significant conservation and environmental work ranging from feeding the world to the importance of our night skies. Along with stories from his journeys, Jim is ready to explain why, our iPhones and smartphones, are indeed worthy co-authors of the stories we each wish to tell — and how we can make the most of our portable camera’s features and settings.
Club Chairman and Zone Reps will want to pay attention when we present the journey of a group of photography friends, “The Imogenes.” Like a game of telephone, they communicated with each other through photos, resulting in the “Visual Conversations Project.” We’ll take a tour of their story and interview members of the group on how this all came about. Their collaborative project suggests a prototype that might be implemented between GCA clubs, zones, or to even share at an annual meeting.
“It’s how you tell your story that makes the WOW!” Karen McCormick, Editor, Focus
